Paid Mentorship Opportunities

SHPE-Chicago has partnered up with NextWaveSTEM to hire mentors who would be interested in teaching our STEM enrichment courses in Robotics, Drones, 3D printing and Coding to students in K-8 grades.

This would be a paid mentoring opportunity, we will provide the training and certify those mentors who apply. We are seeking applicants that have experience working with grade school children.

You will become a paid Certified STEM Coach Mentor and will instruct children from our Drone, Robotics, and 3D printing courses.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Fully understand and internalize lesson content and concepts related to the mBot by Makeblock (will teach)
  • Provide students with a fun and engaging experience throughout all after-school activities.
  • Follow all lesson plans, paying close attention to each day’s key concepts and content.
  • Adapt instructional styles and approaches to meet individual student needs.
  • Prepare project supplies for our hands-on classes
  • Document step by step project instructions
  • Should be willing to drive to schools to conduct classes in the afternoon (typically between the hours of 2:30-4:30 PM)
  • Courses offered will include Drone technology, 3D Printing, and Robotics. (We provide your Training).

Qualifications and Skills

  • Completed college degree, currently working on degree, recent graduates.
  • Experience working with children (K-8 grades)
  • Ability to manage small and large groups of students
  • Ability to provide students with differentiated and engaging instruction
  • Ability to drive to schools with class materials
  • Classroom teaching experience highly desired but not required
  • Passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math highly desired
