Jovany Melchor is a proud first-generation college graduate raised by Mexican immigrant parents who instilled in him the value of hard work from an early age. He earned his B.S. in Cybersecurity and M.S. in Cyber Forensics from the Illinois Institute of Technology, launching his career through multiple internships before stepping into his current role as a Security Consulting Engineer at Cisco.

Jovany joined SHPE as a freshman during the COVID-19 pandemic, quickly rising through leadership roles as Professional Development Chair and later Chapter President. For him, SHPE has always been more than just an organization—it’s a close-knit community of mentors and peers that uplifts and empowers one another. His passion for giving back continues as he now supports SHPE through corporate recruiting and mentorship efforts.

In his role on the SHPE Chicago board, Jovany is focused on strengthening the chapter’s digital presence. His mission is to make SHPE Chicago more accessible and engaging for busy professionals, ensuring it’s a resource they look forward to being part of—both online and in person. He also hopes to serve as a connector between professionals and student chapters, fostering a sense of continuity and support.

Outside of cybersecurity and SHPE, Jovany enjoys experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, spending quality time with loved ones, and always staying curious and open to learning something new.
