Step Up and Step Into a Leadership Role with SHPE!

Are you ready to step into a nationally-recognized volunteer leadership role with SHPE? Do you want to gain invaluable technical and soft skills, grow your professional network, and expand your influence while advocating for Hispanics in STEM?
SHPE National is  looking for candidates like you who want to make an impact at the highest levels of the organization. As a volunteer leader you will:
  •  Learn more about yourself, identify new talents, and increase in confidence
  •  Practice management of self, others, and time
  •  Develop soft skills such communications, problem-solving, and negotiation
  •  Learn how to work with a team
  •  Gain practical experience in a safe environment
  •  Expand your resume and elevate your profile
  •  Be able to use the skills you’ve learned in class and at work
  •  Have fun!
If you want all of this and more we encourage you to become a candidate in the upcoming election for these nationally-recognized volunteer positions!
Elections will be held this year for the following 2-year positions:
• One National Board Of Directors member
• Regional Vice Presidents for Regions 2, 4, and 6
Elections will be held this year for the following 1-year positions:
• Two National Undergraduate Representatives
• One National Graduate Representatives
• Seven Regional Student Representatives
• Seven Graduate Student Representatives
Eligible candidates and members wanting to nominate and/or vote must be members in good standing as of February 15, 2020. Student chapters wanting to vote need at least 10 members in good standing as of February 15, 2020.Graduating seniors who want to be considered as a graduate or professional member for election purposes should complete the affidavit form and mail it to the address on the form (ATTN: National Elections) postmarked by February 15, 2020.

All nominees must submit their nomination package by Sunday, March 31!Your nomination package must include: biography, professional photo, nomination petition, and transcripts for undergraduate and graduate positions.

In the interest of fairness there are rules in place about campaigning for SHPE office. To highlight some of those policies –
NATIONAL POSITIONS: There should be NO campaigning for national board positions at RLDCs. National board candidates will be given an opportunity to record a 2-minute campaign video that will be made available on the SHPE National YouTube channel. That availability will be promoted via SHPE National email and social media.
REGIONAL POSITIONS: Regional candidates may give a 3-minute speech at their RLDC during the Regional Meeting. All candidates must make their intention to run known to the RVP and Committee Lead prior to the Regional Meeting so that time may be allocated.
February 15: 
  • The membership payment is due to be eligible to nominate, vote, or run for office.
  •  The affidavit form is due for graduating seniors wanting to be considered a graduate or professional member for election purposes.
  •  Student chapters wanting to vote need at least 10 members in good standing.

March 31: Nominations submittal deadline at 11:59 pm PDT
May 1: Elections begins at 12:01 am EDT
May 25: Elections concludes at 12:01 am PDT
May 31: Election results announced
